Did You Know? — Part 1

On Sunday, 9 August, we began our Did You Know? series by looking at John 9 and the difference between knowing of God and truly knowing Him.

Key Highlights

• Knowing God vs. knowing of God. The central question is not whether we know about God, but whether we truly know Him personally through time spent, obedience, and experience.
• Suffering is not always a result of sin. The man born blind in John 9 was not suffering because of his sin or his parents' sin. His condition existed so that “the works of God should be revealed in him.”
• Breakthrough requires obedient faith. The blind man's healing came after a step of faith into the unknown. He obeyed Jesus' unusual instruction to go and wash, and his obedience led to his sight.
• Our perspective is limited. People saw the man's disability from a limited, “below” perspective. Jesus saw from an “above” perspective, viewing the situation as an opportunity for breakthrough, redemption, and healing.
• Transformation makes you unrecognizable. A genuine encounter with Christ brings such profound change that people may not recognize who you used to be, just as the neighbours debated the identity of the healed man.
• Your story isn't over. God is still writing your story. Testing and trials are not an excuse to stop serving God; they are often a push to act with urgency and a reminder that He has greater plans for you.
